Here is a first look at the latest version of Ubuntu Studio; 21.04, codenamed ‘Hirsute Hippo’!
Ubuntu Studio is a GNU/Linux distribution aimed at creatives. It comes with tools for Audio/Music production, Video editing, Photography, Graphic Design, Art and Literature included and preconfigured out of the box!
I was lucky enough to receive a Mooer Ocean Machine for my birthday recently! So, here is a quick demo video of some of the pedal’s presets, playing through some of Devin Townsend’s greatest riffs!

So, here we are at the half way point between Ubuntu Studio 20.10 and 21.04. What do I think of Ubuntu Studio 20.10 so far?
It’s been quite a change for Ubuntu Studio, with them going from using Xfce as their desktop environment to KDE’s Plasma 5 desktop environment. That’s not the only difference though, as there are some new programs pre-installed too!
When you have a lot of pedals to power, you have to get the right power supply to power them all. That’s why I’ve bought myself the Cioks Ciokolate, a behemoth of a power supply.
Thank you to everyone who commented to my previous video on the subject. I read every comment and looked into all of your suggestions! Link to previous video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nfAqEa7mFjo
This is my favourite Christmas Carol. I first heard it through performing Ralph Vaughan Williams’ ‘Fantasia on Christmas Carols’. I hope you enjoy the video!
I hope you have a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
The latest version of the GNU/Linux distribution for creatives is here; Ubuntu Studio 20.10 ‘Groovy Gorilla’.
In this video I will be highlighting the main changes between this version and the previous version (20.04 LTS), as well as going through the software that comes installed in this version of the distribution.
Also, sorry for the later than expected upload of this video. I’ve been pretty busy recently and this video took a long time to edit.
Recently I had been running out of space on my Audio/Video Production Workstation, so I decided to buy some more SSDs.
I’ll be adding a 1TB ADATA XPG NVMe SSD, with the help of a Silverstone M.2 to PCIe card. I will also be adding a 1TB Crucial SATA SSD, which will be going into a Silverstone 5.25″ 4 slot 2.5″ drive bay.
Originally this was going to be a dual subject video. As well as being about upgrading the storage on my audio production workstation it was also going to be documenting if it was indeed possible to install an NVMe SSD (by using a PCIe card) onto an AMD FX based motherboard, AND if that was possible if it would be able to become my main boot drive.
It does indeed work, however, the amount of video footage I ended up filming trying to get it to work made me realise that this needs a video of its own. For this reason there are a couple of jump cuts in this video where I was talking about compatibility to do with the NVMe drive and the FX processor.
The video about getting the NVMe drive to work with my FX based motherboard is currently in the works.
For various reasons (listed in this video) I have decided to make channels on both Dailymotion and LBRY to go alongside my YouTube channel. Don’t worry I’m not leaving YouTube, and going forward all of my videos will be uploaded to all three platforms.
You can find me on Dailymotion under the channel name: Adam Thomas Music, and on LBRY under @AdamThomasMusic.
Also it seemed like a good time for a general channel update!
